The Dance Between the Private and the Public
The Recording of our gathering: Coming together In Sacred Space
This section of C-Lab, called Fishbowl, was created to unveil the kinds of conversations that typically happen behind closed doors. I envisioned this space as a way to address the misunderstandings that arise when we project our assumptions onto others, often without truly understanding what it means to be them.
Sacred and intimate conversations or gatherings are rarely accessible to the public. In their absence, it’s easy to assume that what we can’t see doesn’t exist. Meanwhile, in a world oversaturated with trivial information on social media, we—modern folk —have increasingly lost touch with the sacred.
C-Lab urges us to re-member.
It is only through re-membering (piecing ourselves back together) that we’ll be able to co-create a future in which our medical system honours the sacredness of birth and death, the “mental health” systems understand the cyclical nature of women, and our world reflects the creative impulses from both male and female bodies.
About this video.
I was honoured to co-hold this space with Cheryl, our mother-to-be, as we gathered with friends and trusted ones to celebrate and bless her journey toward the "Birth Altar."
Admittedly, I fell short on the technical side of things. Holding sacred space while navigating the complexities of Zoom proved to be more challenging than I anticipated. I didn’t start recording until 15 minutes in, so if it feels like you’re stepping into a conversation already in progress, you are!
Additionally, I missed selecting the “group view” option during the recording, so the video only captures those who spoke. This omission (unintentionally) excludes the presence of the silent participants who contributed profoundly to the creation of our sacred space.
Modernity often reinforces the notion that only the voices we hear matter, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who attended—for the tears shed, the stories shared, and the quiet, unspoken contributions that made this gathering so powerful. Your presence was essential; this space wouldn’t have been the same without you.
The recording also ends abruptly, as I chose to stop it before the gathering concluded. The event continued for about 20 more minutes, which unfortunately wasn’t captured.
If you choose to watch this video, be mindful that you are stepping into a sacred space.
I invite you to engage with it fully—mind, body, and spirit. May it touch your heart and send ripples of connection and inspiration through your world.
Oh this! I love so much about what you’ve created here… and I haven’t listened to the video yet - soon! Thank you!!
